The theory with the smaller piece was because I had 6 layers stacked with 1/4 " fiber in the corners between each layer which caused it to bow a bit more dramatically than the larger piece. I had wondered if it put too much pressure on the center of the bottom piece in more of a concentrated po...

I am using blue 2000 to fuse/cast a 1 and 1/2" Ctop. I am using 6 sheets of 1/4 " as that was all that was available . I first did a 32 x 96 " long piece that came out perfectly. Then I did a 32 x 54 and it basically exploded. It looks as if the 2nd layer sheet just blew out. I checke...

I have made some cool things out of float in my 18" kiln and they turned out great. However, I have started using a large kiln 9' x 4' ( shouldn't make any difference) but i tried to use the following schedule t to slump 1/4 " float. 350h/1000 - 10min 700-1375 - 20 min hold 1000 - 2 hours ...

Turning black

Well, we fired the big kiln up to 750 for about an hour and a half to burn off the bad stuff. It did smoke quite a bit. When we looked inside this morning it has turned a black color. Coating ridgid board with Alumina

Bert, Jeff Jackson here, I was wonderiing in this critical last step of rigidizing do you think it is necessary to coat all six sides of the kiln floor or just the top portion that is exposed? I am asuming that the walls on the bell and as much of the cieling as I can get to should be coated as well...

Thanks for the info Bert. We just finished our large kiln today and were just at last step , getting ready to apply the riidizer when I ran across this info. We are planning to order it tomarrow. Once it is applied can we then fire directly on the HD Board/kiln floor ? Or would I need to use a kiln ...
