I have a copper "jello" mold that states it is solid copper. Can I use this as a casting mold?

this is for Bert

Hi Bert, Many years ago you gave me a float glass fusing schedule for three 2 mm sheet glass (total 6 mm). I cannot find it anywhere and would appreciate you giving it to me again please. I always use BE glass but have come across a great amount of float glass and wish to use it. And you also told m...

Re: steel rod

Thanks for the info. I just wanted a ball park answer so I could start experimenting myself. I have a small wooden chair that I want to make a glass blanket for. The blanket might just be woven rod or stringer or 1/4 inch fused glass; I have not made up my mind yet, I am wanting to drape this blanke...

Re: slumping glass into a glazed ceramic mold

I use Universal Mold Coat that Boyce Lundstrum developed. You add acrylic paint to the powder mixture and it lasts through several firings. No need to scuff the surface and it leaves the back of the piece very smooth. I love the product.

steel rod

I want to bend glass over steel rod. My question is this: How thick should the rod be before it will bend and how high of a temperature can I go before it will bend? :?:

Re: rigidizing fiber blanket

Thanks for your input Cynthia; it is appreciated. Bert, sand does sound like a mess so perhaps just some extra rolled up fiber blanket will be enough to support the curved ends? What do you think?

Re: rigidizing fiber blanket

Thank you Bert; I had thought of using sand for the entire mold but my "techie" said sand would not work. I have casted onto sand before and loved the results. I will take your advice and prop up the mold with bricks or sand to dry it in the kiln and leave it that way when I slump the long...

rigidizing fiber blanket

I think I was given some bum advice. I needed to make a mold that was 7" x 24" for a special order piece. All it needed to be was like a long and narrow sushi plate. I just needed a slight up-curve on the ends. I was told to get thick fiber blanket and soak it with rigidizer and let it dry...

Re: Firing glass over plant material

When I use foliage under glass, I will cut the thick parts lengthwise and I also either dry them flat with weight on them or I put them in the microwave with weight and dry them out that way. With this method I have never had an issues with bubbles or breakage. I have done this many times and have s...

Re: boron nitride

One other question. I am draping over a ss form for a lamp shade. I want somewhat of a texture to the inside so that the light from the bulb is diffused. Would it work if I draped fiber blanket (that I separate into a thinner piece) over the ss form?

boron nitride

I have a can of boron nitride and was wondering if you all like to use it on stainless steel or do you feel that kiln wash works better?
