Hi Kevin
So you are suggesting to slump the glass inside a mold. In this case I would need 8 to 10 sheets of 3mm glass. A rule of thumb is that you need 2 sheets of 3mm glass for every 1 inch . If you have any other suggestions (based on your notes ) I am curious to know them.

fusing a long vase
Hello ! hope we all enjoyed our Christmas and New Year vacation.... I am in the process of making a cone shaped fused glass vase 10 inches long. I have tried to produce long vases before by sagging 3 circles of glass (thickness 4 mm) over a positive mold I made myself. After fusing I found that the ...

transparent fusing colors
Hi to all artists... I am trying to figure out what kind of colors were used in the attached pictures : beautiul coral and violet transparent colors in Janet Kelman's seafans. I am currently using Provetro frit which gives me very nice colors, but shades are very dark in violet and orange. I appreci...

Maggie, these butterflies were painted with Josephine transparent enamels fired at 1085℉, then turned off. Jen EDIT: Just looked at my notes: Sky and leaves are Josephine other colours are Fay Good. Yellow butterfly has Reusche bistre brown, stencil black and tracing black border detail in wings, f...

Re: transparent enamels 1200 F - brands
Reusche has some transparent colors that mature around 1200 or 1250ºF The top picture could use them. If you were to underfire them, they would come out matte. The bottom picture looks to me like some sort of etching away of thin layers of glass applied by a glass blower. It is hard to tell in a ph...

Re: transparent enamels 1200 F - brands
I second Vonon's recommendation. Kathy Peterson's are good German stuff. Matteness is at odds with transparency. They aren't opposites, but scattering light at the surface (matteness) doesn't help transparency's cause. KP makes a 'silk' glass paint that has nice characteristics, but in my experienc...

Re: transparent enamels 1200 F - brands
Yes, it is probably a cameo vase but the pink pastel close to the rim looks like enamal applied as a final touch. I think that something similar can be produced using kiln casting + enamels. I was once tasked with getting that red sunset haze on a piece of acid etched stained glass. I tested every ...

Re: transparent enamels 1200 F - brands
Kathy Peterson's The Good Stuff has a selection of paints that are modified for use on glass and mature below 1200 F. Her store is mainly geared toward porcelain painting but she carries a very nice selection of stuff for glass. http://www.thegoodstuff.com/glass-paints-and-supplies.html The paints ...

transparent enamels 1200 F - brands
Hello I would appreciate your advice before buying enamels that would mature at 1200 F max. I need transparent enamels to use after kiln casting or fusing. . In the meantime I don't want the enamels to be shiny, like ferro for example... I posted some images as an example of what I have in mind. Tha...

Re: Can I trim the edges of a finished piece using water jet
I think they (the workshop) will have to invert the piece and cut around the original shape or, as you mentioned, put some kind of support under the flat areas

Re: Can I trim the edges of a finished piece using water jet
Since it is straight edges, you might also consider finding someone that has a glass cutting bandsaw and trim the edges that way, then cold work the edges. Unless you use abrasives to polish, you will probably need to fire polish (in case you hadn't thought of that)... even a water jet cut would ne...

Can I trim the edges of a finished piece using water jet ?
Hello ! I have a question about trimming the edges of finished piece using water jet or laser cutting. I did fusing and slumping in one firing using a mold I constructed myselt. I cut the glass larger than the desired shape to leave about 3.5 cm of glass resting on the border for the glass to sag ea...

aesthetic versus practival side of hanging fused glass
Hi to all friends and colleagues I would appreciate your opinion on the aesthetic, rather than the practival side of hanging small to medium fused glass panels on the wall. I personally like standoff systems but sometimes it is more practical to use white painted plywood as a background . So what's ...
