Re: Backlighting Fused Glass Murals

Just couple more images are attached. I am not satisfied with LED in my finished projects and I have no trust in LED lighting. I prefer to not deal with it at all but would reconsider if I see good samples of LED lighting in glass installations

Re: Backlighting Fused Glass Murals

Well. We did hundreds of installations. At the start of the project I describe my general expectations of the lighting set up showing different samples and giving options. I always say that I do not recommend using LED but if the client prefers I tell them about CRI and colour temperature. In few ca...

Re: Embossing float 10 mm glass

How to organize in the best manner the process of lifting/turning/moving large peaces of glass? Can somebody recommend special vacuum cups for textured glass or any other equipment?

Re: Embossing float 10 mm glass

Edges are fine I like them. except devit along the edges. I was thinking to polish it off just a little bit (but really I do not want to spend time on it). Alternatively in my mind the finished peace will have gold leaf applied to some areas and glass may just benefit from combination of gold leaf a...

Re: Embossing float 10 mm glass

Thank you. I got devit strips along edges around 1.5 - 2 inches wide. They really do not bother me, but I am thinking to try hand polish ... Is there any sense?

Re: Embossing float 10 mm glass

Thank you Bert. Yesterday I run one sample in a small kiln and ,yes, I need go hotter. I'll try 1420 with 40 m hold. Why tin side down? A lot of sources recommend tin up to avoid devitrification. What do you mean that air side down will make it rough? Sorry for questions, but I will run my kiln toda...

Re: Backlighting Fused Glass Murals

LED lighting should be used with caution. It is not recommended for colour sensitive applications. It has lower CRI index. I learned it hard way - the lighting engineer sold to the client expansive LED system with vinyl screens to dissolve light dots. Nobody listened to me when I tried to change at ...

Embossing float 10 mm glass

I never worked with float glass before and any related information is highly appreciated. I am working on the project, wall divider 30 by 92 inches, 10 mm thick. I want to create a mix of fiber blanket pattern and dry plaster and then to emboss this pattern into glass. I also want to keep edges of t...

Re: New kiln and non uniform glass thickness

I am just having bad luck.... It is good to have possibility to review actual firing after. Looking through graphics I noticed that during 3 hours temperature dropped from 850 to 700 after annealing. That was something wrong with the program or computer, we noticed that on Monday morning when we cam...

Re: New kiln and non uniform glass thickness

I need help .... Our kiln in combination with current shelves system seems to bring more problems than I expected. We set up a 6 point monitoring system - the temperature inside of the shelf was around 150 F lower during firing up and 50 F lower during hold comparatively to t/c installed above the g...

Re: New kiln and non uniform glass thickness

Just little report on the final firing. The glass was reheated to 1410 and even quite short soak time (3 min) made texture much more smoother and glass thickness decreased to a maximum of 1 inch. The panels are annealed nicely. Usually I try to keep glass edges sharper but this time new smother text...

Re: New kiln and non uniform glass thickness

Cynthia, Thank you a lot for all your thoughts. They are very valuable for me. Bullseys notes are very important. Large scale in art glass is comparatively new direction and those companies that work with art glass (especially in Canada) keep it as a trade secret. Not a lot of information available ...

Re: New kiln and non uniform glass thickness

I want to refire 2 panels (manor changes to the design layout) . What would be safe T to reheat the glass? Here is the link to my facebook album with this project https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=709976042365500&set=a.649648765064895.1073741825.100000593313619&type=3&theater Does ...

Re: New kiln and non uniform glass thickness

It is hard to tell from your picture, but if any glass spans the cracks between the shelves, it will not anneal. You would have to cement the shelves together. How many zones are there? (how many thermocouples?) There is only 1 termocouple installed by manufacturer. Gaps are very small and before e...

Re: New kiln and non uniform glass thickness

Congratulations! Thank you! Long waited, badly needed, finally installed Where is the crack and how is it shaped? Does it follow, or appear to originate from, any of those colored pieces? In particular, the sharper-edged or taller tack-fused pieces? Is there any consistency with which colors/pieces...

New kiln and non uniform glass thickness

Recently I got a new custom built belt type kiln with inner space 48 by 96 by 13, 600 V with master vent system. We set up a set of large mullite extruded shelves 46 by 42 inches approximately 1 inch from the kiln floor. The glass is placed about 7 inches from the heat sensor I am working on the pro...
