I did all kinds of testing with mason stains and oxides to get color and got very few good results. Mostly because of the large amount of gasses these produce, making big craters and holes. Mason staines did make better colors than most oxides. Black iron oxide, and copper oxide make a nice black an...

Drilling holes in sinks
The neck on my drill press isn't long enough to drill holes in sinks. Has anyone ever used one of these http://www.crlaurence.com/ProductPages/frameGen.asp?Product=CRL2&ProductID=11849&Origin= 1300 rpm or http://www.crlaurence.com/ProductPages/frameGen.asp?Product=PDM2800&ProductID=11870...

My life before a controler: Sit on a stool for 2 to 5 hours, taking notes, making calculations to achieve 200 deg/hr. Readjusting the infinite switch to stay at that rate, recalculating, readjuting, recalculating, peeking in the kiln, make calculations. Gee this stool is hard..... After controler: s...

Thanks vic, I want to replicate old glass, and not change the appearance. Yes a good devit spray would be nice as I am using glass that loves to devit badly, in particlular Kokomo K11. I would bet half of the lamps Ive seen needing repair have that glass. The trick is going very fast to avoid devit,...

Devit sprays
I usually use Borax, but I am doing some low temp slumping of stained glass for bent lamp panels. Borax doesn't seem to mature properly for me at these temps. I seem to remember that spray-A and superspray had different maturing temps. Does anyone know about this?

the drying time is one reason that I'm using it. But the biggest is that I'm trying to duplicate a heavy texture on stained glass. Trying to get as much glass into crevices without 1000 drill holes isn't easy. So this is what I'm trying. going to go way slow to see if it works. Still needed to dril...

avoiding strike in opalecent glass
I am bending glass and trying to avoid the glass striking to become more opaque. At what temp does striking occur?

devit spray maturation temps
I am curently using borax as devit spray. It seems to me that there was a thread about a year ago about borax not maturing untill fairly hot temperatures were used. So does anyone know the minumum temperature for using borax, and, if I need to go cooler for just slumping, what spray should I use? Th...

Hydroperm question
I'm getting trapped air bubbles using hydroperm as a mold for slumping panels for a bent panel lamp. The panels are odd shaped with lots of dents. I'm thinking that there might be 2 causes. #1. I am ramping up extremely fast to 1400 after the initial slow heat up to 1000. This is to try and avoid de...
