Ross, When I do the matte finish, sandblasted pieces you've seen, I fire for the matte finish and slump at the same time. Using Spectrum 96, that's 1125/10 mins in my kiln. I fire polish the same glass at 1300/10 mins. My guess is that you might get away with around 1275 for some time and still get ...

Camaro, I use an RTC 1000 controller and find it very easy. Perhaps I can help straighten things out... I'm a bit confused with your explanation of what you've done so far, so I'm just going to make this general. First off, whatever you have done is not permanently loaded into the controller. I thin...

Coasters in racks?
I'm making some coasters to sell at a gift fair soon. For those of you who have sold coasters, do you find that there is any particular sales advantage to selling them in a rack or holder vs. without? I'm just thinking about the price break here. Anyone have a source for racks?
Thanks,
Cliff

Does silicone II adhesive survive a dishwasher?
I'm using GE Silicon II adhesive to attach feet made from glass marbles to the bottom of some plates I hope will sell at a gift buying event later this year. The only caveat on the product tube notes that the stuff is not for surfaces that will exceed 400 F. Seems like the bond would be durable in 1...

Ron, If you don't go with the PAB gun from Bob Pickard, you'll want a foot pedal for certain. I've had both the Glastar and the Rayzist pedals, and the Rayzist is hands down a more robust device. They both work on the same principal, but the Rayzist comes with much nicer hoses and connects easier th...

Traci, Firing on paper generally solves the shelf bubble problem, but if you prefer firing directly on a prepped shelf, the only way to elmiminate air trapping (provided that your shelf is indeed flat, as Lisa and Cynthia mentioned) is to slow way down between 1000-1250 to give the glass a chance to...

Question about attaching 13" backplate to Covington WBS
I recently acquired a used model 760 Covington wet belt sander in excellent condition. The previous owner did not have the 13" backplate, so I bought one and it arrived today. I'm questioning the method for anchoring the top of the back plate to the tool housing. Am I correct in assuming that t...

Just lending my $0.02 in support of what Steve already said.... I frequently sandblast and refire pieces either because I want to really clean the surface, or to produce a matte finish. I have not had any bubble trouble that i can directly attribute to blasting. I have also reslumped pieces on occas...

Drilling out a bubble
I'm working on eliminating surface distortion due to a bubble. I've just drilled into the bubble, but have not drilled all the way through the full 6 mm thickness, just into the bubble, so it now appears like a crater on a volcano :). Is it necessary to drill completely through the full thickness of...

Seeking flat grinder recommendations
I have the occasional need to grind a straight edge on a piece of flat glass; or to achieve a flat surface on marbles or rods used as feet. I'm interested in hearing recommendations for a general purpose tool that will enable me to accomplish these feats. I'm in a small space, and water hookup is no...
