Lorelei...The kiln looks exactly like a Duncan(no longer made) It was popular with 'china painters' and small low fire ceramics. I got one 2 years ago for $150 in like new condition. I have not pushed the temp. and use it only when the other kilns are busy for lusters, paints, decals etc. I would not ...

Two good blades for an MK saw are MK 215 GL or MK 303 Pro. Both are aprox the same price and both do a good job. Here is a link.

You can get an L&L with zone control for less than the others and it should be an advantage for your glass.

I have some of the kevlar gloves as well as the sleeves from CDV. I bought them 2 or 3 years ago. I use them for glory hole work. The gloves do a good job with the heat from a full size glory hole. They fit well and there is no problem with dexterity. I would highly recommend the sleeves be used with...

I have never had to heat and re-pin(maybe dumb luck) If you do heat... do not forget to uplug the kiln before work. I re-pin pushing in at an angle so that there more fresh brick to hold the pin and gravity will be countered to some degree...good luck

I would check with Phil about how to best vent your new kiln..he would know if the Orton hood or floor vent model would work best. I have floor vents on 2 kilns and do not use them because they affect the heat distribution and are not predictable...and the room ventalation is ok

Distortion because of slumping may be a problem only if it is a steep slump...otherwise should be ok...be sure to vent the kiln (I vent to 1050 when using gold) The slump temp will be ok for the gold. good luck!

Also...shake the small bottle often...the metal settles quickly.
If you use a brush for application..save it and use it for the gold ONLY. You do not want cross contamination. Normal painters turp can also be used to clean tool and/or brush.
