Olympic GFE 126 Lite kiln
I just bought a new olympic gfe 126 lite kiln. It is supposed to smoke and smell on the first firing. I'd like to know how much smoke? Is there anything I should be careful of during my first firing of this kiln? I'm a newbie obviously.

It's just manufacturing oils and "crud" burning off.
I would take a shop vac and vacuum it first, and then fire. It shouldn't be very much smoke, though it will smell funky. That usually stops after the first burn-off firing, though my Cress drop-bottom kiln has been fired several times and stinks every time (but doesn't smoke! )

It's the Fiber board that's smoking. It will only happen on the first firing. It's an organic binder they use to make it and will go away. Probably smells like burnt sugar.
