Hi everybody,
I need to grind 3 m'm glass off a piece of mine.
It take AGES with regular tools, i.e. angle grinder. I am using 30 grit diamond disc - and it seems to work too slow. Very frustrating.
Do you think I could use, a more aggressive pad, like one being used for cement, for instance? They have 16 grit discs...
Then, I'll probably have to go over it with a finer tool - - -
Thanks in advance
ps, it can't be sandblasted

Re: Grinding Glass
The coarser the grit the greater the chipping will be around the perimeter. Even at 30 you should see quite a bit. 16 will be worse. The chipping can be very deep which in turn requires even more surface removal.
I would suggest a little finer grit like 60 or 80 and more rapid application. This is where power tools are very beneficial.

Yes, aggressive discs designed for materials like concrete or stone, can leave huge chips and gouges, that create many more problems than they solve. If I have 3mm to remove from the perimeter, I would take it to a waterjet company. This leaves a ground surface that is not too difficult to polish out.

Thanks you both Jim and Bert, [G'mar Khatima Tova... BTW]
I think that sandblasting would have also done a pretty good job. Sandblasting is also more available here.
However, luckily enough, a friend who came to help me today, found a method of grinding holding the grinder a bit on diagonal - and did the job within 2 hours. -
a real MIRACLE!
I am so happy now. Totally a different person
Thanks for your responses
