I have had the same problem when removing the stencil and found out that if I use a clear acrylic painting medium thinned with a little water it really helped a lot. Dried fast and pretty hard and made the stencil easy to remove. Best if you do multiple thin layers instead of one thick one. It may n...

I just loaded the kiln with several ceramic plates and will see what happens tomorrow. I have mixed several combos of the metallics with samba colors....then, I have mixed some of those colors with plain samba colors in my designs. I have also put a couple of tiles with the same color combos in the ...

Ferro Fantasie & Flux
I have mixed some colors (2/3 Fantasie & 1/3 Samba) and want a nice gloss on glass & some ceramic blanks. I don't see any mention of Flux in the Fantasie material, but there is in the Samba.
Does anyone know if I should add a coat of Flux on top for gloss?
Thanks,
Cathy

TO HEAT OR NOT TO HEAT...THAT IS THE QUESTION
Fantasie and Samba (Ferro)...the info supplied with these products suggests that you heat them before you mix the powders with the mediums. I have looked in the archives and can't find a mention of this. Does anyone heat it up? Is it a smoother blend if you do? Any tips on mixing would be appreciate...

I just opened my kiln and boy did I do something wrong! I was doing an "enamel test" using 4" ceramic tiles (since I will be using the Ferro enamels on both ceramic blanks and glass) and it looks like I sprinkled salt on the tiles under the enamel.....lots of little bumps. I thought I...

I guess our diverse line of products prompted an in depth explanation. It entirely depends on what you are shipping. If I charged $200 (10%) for one of my more expensive jackets, my client would have a heart attack. If it was for a large stained glass window it would be expected. If it was 10% for a...

Another Ferro question...
Is there any reason that I can't mix up several ounces of paint (other than the purple) at once and keep them for several weeks. When airbrushing what seems to be an average number of layers of paint that you use to get a nice dense coverage? I am doing my test color strips tonight and, so far, it s...

Ferro "Samba" basics?
I am an airbrush artist and new to glass. I just received my "Samba" series of Ferro paints and was sent a lot of safety info, but basically NO "how to" info. They sent me the following: 1650 Flux 683 Med. 380 Med. 1544 Med. Can anyone tell me the basic difference in the characte...

I have had a flex shafts for 30 yrs and there are all kinds of diamond bits, grinding heads etc. for them. I must confess, as I am new to glass, I have yet to use it on glass, but I am sure it will not be a problem for very small items. Rio Grand in Albuquerque, NM will probably have most everything...

Blowers & Filter questions
I spent a couple of hours last night reading the MSDS on Ferro enamels and mediums. I spent 3 hrs this morning reading archives on safety. I plan on using R53HE-P100 when airbrushing enamels. The P100 when cleaning & grinding, then N95 masks when grinding for stained glass. I am buying HEPA filt...
