Re: Compressor recommendations?
I've got a siphon and am considering buying a pressure pot. Which pressure pots are ya'll using? Any special issues? Greg, I use two cheap pressure pots (like HF pots) and have added foot switch devices to them. I used a regular ball valve to turn the blast line on and off for ten years before I bo...

Re: Compressor recommendations?
If you have a pressure pot system, you can use a 110v compressor and do carving. If you have a siphon system, which is what I have, you need a larger compressor. I use my compressor to do lots of things other than sandblasting. I agree 100% is you are running a siphon system a larger compressor is ...

Re: Compressor recommendations?
Brad, I do also use my compressor for everything from painting, using air tools on my vehicles and even grinding and polishing glass with an pneumatic sanders. We even used it to make a snow making machine one year. I will admit that my compressor doesn't keep up 100% for air sanding, as it does slo...

Re: Compressor recommendations?
I DON'T GET IT!!!!!! The manufacturer says this will work yet know one seems to believe them. I have been blasting almost everyday for between 1-5 hours with a similar set-up for 10 years with the same 110v compressor. I have never had to wait for my compressor to catch up, I blast at up to 70 lbs p...

I tried a counter weight system once but found it too finicky. So I bought a hoist
Much easier to get the lid an inch or a foot up.

Leslie, you are too kind.
I don't think the true scale of the piece comes through in the pictures. This piece is 16" wide and 3/4" (19mm) thick. It is much more dramatic and striking in person than these photos represent.
I am always happy to work on your pieces.

Re: Devitrification in New Kiln/Kiln Shelf
Yep, the binders in the fibre will do that.
Fire that kiln 100-200 degrees hotter than any normal temps to once and for all burn off the binders.

Re: adventures with broken tempered
I don't have a purple filter on mine at all. Just the 13w germicidal bulb in a "trouble light" fixture. You do have to cut the plastic housing as the UV won't pass through. The bulb is about 6-7 inches long but I only have about 1/2" open to reduce the shortwave uv escaping the housing.

Re: sand blaster foot switch
before the foot valve, I had a ball valve attached to the cabinet. It worked ok but the new valve setup works great. The old diaphragm setup was a pain, they did clog and the gasket would wear out fairly quickly as the abrasive made a 90 degree turn in the housing. The pinch valves allow for perfect...

Re: sand blaster foot switch
I bought a kit from ikonics. It came with the valve, foot switch and regulators.
Works great, they have different types of valves. I bought the pinch valve rather than the diaphragm valve.

Re: Controller advice
Check your controller that it hasn't accidentally been changed from type S to K (or something else) in the settings. That will seriously mess up your controllers measuring of the temps. The type of relay doesn't matter to the type of thermocouple, it's the controller that matters. Some kiln controll...

Re: Devit & Vermiculite observation
7- The piece on the vermiculite mold is heavily devitrified especially near the edges. The Ceramaguard piece has a small ¼” of devit in one corner.
Seems to me the Ceramaguard was emitting an undesirable chemical.
I'd think it was the other way if the vermiculite piece was devitrified.

Re: Can I trim the edges of a finished piece using water jet
It can work with a waterjet but will likely cost you $100 to get it done. (based on local waterjet pricing)
As MArty said abrasives is likely a better way to go, you can spend the cash on something that'll be useful for years to come.

Re: Tile saw dilemma
I often just hold the piece and bring it to the saw blade on my saw if it's to big. Pull or push the table out of the way and bring the glass to the blade.
