Cathy: I am using solid black industrial rubber, that comes in big rolls. It's about 1/4 thick. I don't know if the under carpet stuff would hold it. Sometimes I slightly moisten the glass and then I almost have to pry the glass off. My boyfriend has an industrial fibreglass and metal fab shop so I ...

On this same topic, any advice on how to hold a plate so I can get to all edges without adjusting. Right now I have my plate clamped to the side of a workbench, then I rotate it to get at each 1/3 of the plate, overlapping in some areas. That's the most cumbersome part, stopping to reclamp and rota...

So are you saying then that the devit has to removed 100% (either by sandblasting or etching) or it will return upon slumping????

Geri: I have the cream but haven't tried it yet. What I did do was polish the piece with Walters Blue Paste (for polishing metals to a mirror finish) and a variable speed orbital sander I stuck in a vice. It worked really well. It is really hard to tell where the devit was. It looks like I got away ...

Spectrum Green Devit

Hi to everyone: Does anyone know if Spectrum green 121SF is more susceptible to devit than other colours??? I am experiencing devit but only on this green. I took two rather large pieces out this morning and there it was. One of the pieces is multicoloured strips of blues and green. It looks great, ...

You'd need to get Demi Moore to do it in a movie, like in "Ghost".

Thank you Barbara Janine and everyone who responded off board. It seems that most of the problems encountered with glass can be solved by slowing down - in one way or another. This is probably true in life too.

Thanks again

Hi Barbara My sched. is 350 to 1000 - 0mins / 1200 t0 1230 - 32 mins/ 9999 to 1000 - 8min/ 300 to 955- 20 mins/ etc. The molds are 9 x 9 square and 9 inch circle. It happens on both double and triple layers of Spectrum glass. It is worse on the square mold. It's kind of like the glass moves and then...

Drag Marks on Plate Rims

I'm wondering what might be causing a rough texture (looks like drag marks) on the underside of plate/tray brims after slumping?? After fusing my pieces have a nice, smooth, relatively shiney 'bottom'. Just a slight imprint of the wash and generally a nice finish I am happy with. After slumping the ...

What!!! You mean I could have skipped the third and fourth firing, the multiple glazes, wax resist, sandblasting, and the handfinishing when making my pottery, not to mention of course digging my own clay ;-) I was comparing "one off's " not production work. Maybe I was just a really reall...

This is probably obvious, but if you do go consignment make sure you review their breakage or theft clause and get it in writing. I have both worked in galleries and sold my work to galleries and surprising as it may sound they don't all offer this. I would walk away if they don't. Regarding cost of...

Buy your own Shelves

Hi Brian: I use a skutt ceramics kiln, however mine is computerized. Other than bubbles, which I have since corrected, thanks to this board, it fires glass beautifully. I have done 14 inch diameter with no problem. I worked out of a pottery co-op for years until I had my own pottery studio set up. T...

Thanks Brock, I will try that. I have tried many of the suggestions regarding bubbles on this board including beads. I think my problem may also be linked to my ceramics kiln. I used to be a professional potter, and my favorite glaze was a "crater glaze", looked cool on pots but..... While...

Is three layers hotter than two?

I have noticed in firing 8 and 12 in blanks that bubbles seem to appear only where the glass is two layers thick and hardly at all where it is three layers thick. If I use 2 layers Spectrum and then a pattern on top, the bubbles only appear where the pattern is not. (for example if the third layer i...
