I've just bought a new kiln that is top-firing, and also not as deep as I thought, so how close to the heating elements can I place the glass I want to drape without causing any damage to my piece..or maybe even my kiln?

Boiled Glass Idea

I've not yet tried this so would be most grateful if someone could point me in the right direction. I'd like to make a 20cm x 20cm x 6mm deep tile (that's about 7 3/4" square and 1/4" deep). The volume of the glass is 240,000 cu.mm.(apologies for the metric), so if I put into my 20 x 20 mo...

Bert you wrote Glass thinner than 6mm will dogbone if over fired. Glass thicker than 6mm will spread if over fired. The 6mm story is not simple though. Some "3mm" sheets of glass are not exactly that thickness. Some sheets thin out in the middle. So, 2 layers of this glass might still dogb...
