Depending on the complexity of your project, perhaps some of the new(ish) PMC clays would work for you. I know they now have a bronze clay.
Here's a blog post about glass and copper clay, which might help:

Re: Cheap saw/good blade?
Thanks for everyone's input, I really appreciate it. I'm thinking this will be a good "starter" saw. I bought Jennifer's Result blade and the MK-303 blade she was selling the other day. When they arrive, I guess I'll dig the saw out of the box and try to figure out where it's going to live...

Re: Cheap saw/good blade?
Thanks guys.
That photo is the one I bought yesterday, along with a stand and a two-year warranty. Total price (I had a 20% off coupon) was $295. I'll buy the blade from HIS and give it a try.

Re: Cheap saw/good blade?
Thanks Rick. I've been fusing for about 11 years and haven't needed a saw yet. I've got a little Ameritool 4" lapidary saw that I've used a couple times but obviously not for anything larger. I'm thinking this seems like a way for me to see if there's a use for a saw in my studio; if I wind up ...

Cheap saw/good blade?
Thanks for all the responses on my MK-101 post. I've never needed a tile saw (so far!) but I got excited when I saw the used MK on Craig's List. Since many recommended a cheap saw with a good blade, at least to get me started, I'm asking once again for feedback. Harbor Freight sells a 2.5 HP 10"...

5) Quantity: Up to 126 maglesses per entrant (actual quantity to be determined after signup period is over). I read that. so...if 50 people sign up then do you make 50? Yep. The first year I did it I had to make 126. Another year only 65 or so... If you haven't done it, it's really worth it to push...

I certainly wouldn't risk hanging a cracked piece overhead!
Sounds scary and way too risky.

MK-101 tile saw for $650; good price?
I'm looking at a gently used tile saw. Can anyone tell me if this is a good price please. It comes with a stand.

Re: Super Spray to fill holes
You've got to take SS up to 1425° (I believe) in order for it to fully fuse. I used it on some piece I tack fused to 1400° and it left a splotchy-blotchy mess.

Re: Thin fire over drape mold?
Any tips on how to get an even covering of thin fire paper over a very small stainless steel bowl for draping? Why would you want to do this? The TF paper would likely fold and leave marks in your glass, or tear apart and let your glass stick to your mold. I use boron nitride on my stainless molds ...

You can pull cane from a vitrograph set up. Different sized holes will result in different thicknesses of canes.

Re: Lettering
You could use Glassline paints to draw the letters on. You could use an ink pen and mix clove oil and enamel and write them on. You could use a decal to fuse her logo/lettering on. You could kiln carve the letters into the back of the plate. You could carve a rubber stamp or have one made, then stam...

I went to Whole Foods the other day to buy Agar Agar and found a tiny packet for $9. CMC is way better in that regard!Maryar wrote:Has anyone mentioned Agar? I think that is what it is called, the seaweed?
There was a recipe for that with water on here quite awhile back.

Re: Fiber Kiln
I've got their Bonnie Glo (15" round) and their 16" square fiber kiln. While the BG is lightweight and easy to move around, it doesn't offer much interior space for students. Originally, I bought two of the 16" squares for the same reason you're considering but I had a recent major ce...

Re: Denver Kiln?
One of the reasons I'm detailing all this is to encourage fusers to get to know their equipment. The kiln is simple, a toaster without the pop-up. All the info is available- I recommend starting with Henry Halem's Glass Notes. I completely agree with Marty's statement. I'm not super skilled in home...

Re: Denver Kiln?
Jeez, I obviously needed more coffee when I posted this morning! I remember your issues with Phil and understand your reservations. But those kilns have been on my wish list for awhile. If you'll be keeping your Ovation, then you've already got a smaller kiln for when you want to do only a piece or ...
