Re: A couple new pieces

Excellent Valerie, love the care for detail without it being too perfect. Obviously being six layers they would be something special in person. I have an affection for insects so these really appeal to me. peace, haydo

Re: Help with design and building a new shop

Don't know whether you got to suffer those boxy shower cubicles with the enameled trays. I got one from a metal scrap dealer years ago and would love to get a second one later. Have it plumbed to drain into the wild garden as it's outdoors under the carport roof which is a luxury that I appreciate. ...

Re: It was interesting, the thermal shock thing!

Don't worry, I can hardly wait to show more images of what I'm trying to achieve. Hopefully geek son can get a blog linked to my website while I'm away because I feel so connected to this work that I feel the need to rant about my thoughts about each element. Michele, Nauru is somewhere where you be...

What an effort to get clean lines and than to slump into such a sexy organic image of a rug in the wind, that is very cool. Thank you. peace, haydo

Re: It was interesting, the thermal shock thing!

002.JPG Happy to say that I'm over the moon about this one coming out in one piece. Some of the variation in colour comes from the light through one of the facets. Get to put one more in tonight to add one more for the group before heading back to Nauru next week. Thinking as I type that maybe I co...

Re: It was interesting, the thermal shock thing!

Not sure yet Michele, have removed it from mould box and wrapped it in lava cloth. From what I can see through the sides will make me very happy if it can be salvaged. It was only a couple of hours after mishap that I kicked myself, on another occasion I had to heat the top of work with a torch to e...

It was interesting, the thermal shock thing!

Thought I would share this to add to the already known fact that thermal shock will occur when there is a difference in temp of 70 deg F within a piece. It's so true, was blasting a surface with compressed air to stiffen a section of glass at 1600 deg F when all of a sudden I saw two stress fracture...

Re: What you cannot live without...

No, mainly severe beach erosion. My big silky oak snapped at the base and came down missing a car, just flattening a fence and a lemon lemon tree. Didn't hear a thing.

Re: What you cannot live without...

After last night somebody could ram into my studio, cook breakfast, draw funny faces on us. glad wrap our toilet but am content that even though we have bogans, they aren't that creative yet. Basically my studio is open house and I will have the wrath of all the gods when this arrangement needs to c...

Re: Blogs for promotion.

Yeah!!, I'm going to do it!! Facebook and this forum wouldn't be able to tolerate my meanderings over the next few months, I'm really enjoying the process that I've been going through to try and achieve three very different works to be completed this year. Each work is so connected to me that I feel...

Bubble blocks, last of ther all sorts!!

Was starting to wonder for awhile. Got back from Nauru in one piece with a fairly clear idea that I had to go back to basics with these blocks. Was isolated with gastro at a lovely hotel for three nights before NYE and as I was scraping vegemite onto my bread with my room key to make a cold rice rol...

Marty,Asian gecko's rule, possums have found their way into the roller doors again. Fortunately the cane toads can't make the leap to reach top of slab. To revisit Kelly's question I would find it hard without a light table when working with cane. peace, haydo

Thanks Dana, Cynthia, I still have ample time before I commit to such a thing. My young adviser about starting a blog, I'm sure was about having one on hand to complete a package. At the moment it seems beyond me. peace, haydo

Blogs for promotion.

Recent trip to Canberra was too brief but on the upside very interesting. A daughter to one of my cousins really pushed the idea that I needed to start a blog so that it coincides with work being produced to exhibit after mid-year '14. She's been to uni and also very into fashion design, She has giv...

Happy that you all like them. I'm not going to give away too much but thought by sharing results from trying something new will not always end in tears, I will cry though at some stage if I keep getting these. peace, haydo

Re: Bubble block progress, not.

Thanks all, wasn't until I sliced them up to see what was happening that I was less disappointed. These spend so much time in the kiln for a relatively small piece that it frustrates, pacing, waiting for the birth, Warren there are other glass workers getting bubbles into glass, not sure how they do...
