Re: Angle of scoring head?

If the head is at an angle to the glass, side to side, the edge of the glass shows the same angle. So the break continues along the score angle. So, in theory, if the head is at an angle, front to back, the fracture either runs a little in front of the score or behind it depending on how it is angle...

Angle of scoring head?

I'm currently redesigning the glass scoring attachment on my cnc cutter. On my current attachment, I have the head square to the glass side to side and front to back. Of course, it is important that the side to side be perfectly square to the glass. However, when most of us hand cut we tend to have ...

Re: Sandblasting questions

I use a cyclone in front of a small shop vac, it's been running for years that way. I think the cyclone does a good enough job of cleaning the air before it gets to the vac motor, to save its life. Also, the shop vac is actually outside, just knocked a hole in the wall to run the hose thru. If that ...

Re: Artist Rep

Since I've spend parts of the last 2 years developing a business plan around creating a rep agency, among other services, I guess you could say it is a deal worth considering. Of course it will depend on whether they are good at what they do. It will also depend on the scope of what they are taking o...

Re: copper tube

The copper will anneal and go dead soft around 1000 F and will bend easily if it is small. That may or may not be a problem, just wanted you to be aware of it.

Refractory blocks

I've done the search and found a lot of good info on using plaster, paper clay and other materials for kiln carving molds, but I don't really want to take the time to go thru the trial and error process of learning how to do that. I want to use my CNC router to do some very detail carving for a kiln...

Re: Drying Wood in Kiln

It is possible to do some things with green wood, but you have to know what is and is not possible. For instance, you can turn wooden bowls using green wood, BUT you do it in two passes. You rough turn first making very sure that you have a uniform thickness through out, or it will crack badly. Then...

Re: CNC glass scoring from Thomas Carr

So how much glass can a good cutter cut if a good cutter can cut glass? Before you go spending money on a fancy cutter, think of all the glass you are going to have to handle just to pay for it and then sell to currently non existent customers. Well in my case I have the need. Rather than 30 - 40 h...

Re: CNC glass scoring from Thomas Carr

Well I actually ordered it. Twice. Never received it. Went to see one in New Orleans. It didn't. meet by needs. That one was returned. I don't know if he is still in business. Like I said, I bought a wood cutting CNC and built a glass scoring head attachment for it. Works very well. A little pricey ...

Re: CNC glass scoring from Thomas Carr

Anybody who wants to come to Asheville and see how I converted a CNC to not only be a wood router but is also a glass scorer, is welcome to come on up!

(I think I have a post about this somewhere here.)

Source for thin float glass

Can anyone give me a source for thin float glass? I'm looking for something about half the thickness of regular 3/32 single strength. Just looking for a few sq ft for a prototype, then would need to buy 100 sq ft at a time.

I"ll be there. I live 30 minutes away. I also went to the one last year in Richmond. Be sure to take some of your work to exhibit.
