Re: Finally some new images from my Tropical Woman series
Raf, thanks for clarifying that. They could be difficult to display to their best advantage in a gallery. Light boxes will probably be the best compromise. I have a painted and fired (cathedral glass) piece hanging in a window. That's fine during the day but it disappears at night. I have another pi...

Re: Finally some new images from my Tropical Woman series
Cynthia, I think I finally have enough for a one man show. I will start approaching galleries very soon. Raf Please send that show on a world tour, or at least to Oz! These, too, are stunning, Raf. Congratulations again. How will you display them? I'm trying to work out if they are on transparent g...

perfume bottles maybe 002 (2) (640x206).jpg Thinking that apart from using these in totems and other creative theatrics I was thinking along the lines of the possibility that maybe with a bit of refining and more thought behind design these could become novel scent dipping bottles.I raised the ques...

Re: Please vote for me. "Artists Wanted" Competition
Carol, I can't see "Collect me" on that page. I don't belong to FB so maybe it doesn't show that to me. Good luck with it, JenCarol Carson wrote:Guy,
Sorry, I realize as I look at it myself, that it doesn't really tell you how.
You have to go to the top and click on "Collect Me".
Thank You!!

Re: Hobby Kiln making business
Peter, I think one of the biggest challenges, and the reason for the abundance of caution by the licensing authorities, is the fact that out household power is 220-240 V AC so you don't just get a little zap if you do something silly, you get seriously fried. Have you built one for yourself already?...

Peter, I second what Marty says:

The rules are very strict here. It's not even legal to hard wire a light fixture unless you're a licensed electrician. Too bad, as there would surely be a market. Jen

Re: Sandstone disc for flat lap?
Thanks again, Peter. Lots to digest. Just reread the appropriate parts of The Joy of Coldworking (I'd forgotten there was a paragraph or two about sandstone wheels) and will look into getting Cold working Without Machines. Then again, maybe I should stop reading about it and just jump in and do it u...

Re: Sandstone disc for flat lap?
Thanks Peter. Guess it would have to be mild steel to take the magnetic discs as SS isn't magnetic, is it? I'm not ready yet to invest in diamond discs and am contemplating the suggestions on the other thread, including grit on float. Having had to replace most of my 110v equipment with 240V here I ...

Re: Sandstone disc for flat lap?
Marty, Lauri, Brock, Cynthia and Jeff, thank you so much for all that thoughtful advice. I'd wondered about the porosity and relative hardness so it may be better not to spend the money on a sandstone wheel but to look for a cast iron or steel solution for greater versatility in grit sizes, or glass...

Sandstone disc for flat lap?
As Seachange is exploring in another thread : http://www.warmglass.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=39198&p=336952&hilit=Flat+lap#p336952 I, too, am considering converting a potter's wheel to a flat lap. I can get a fine sandstone disc cut to size for a very reasonable price and wonder if a...

Re: NYT Glass Exhibit article
Wow, Jen, you must surely have a Ph.D. in oblique thinking! If you are not an art critic for an online magazine venture, then you have missed your calling. I choke through much less insightful writings in the several art review magazines that come in my mailbox every month. Well done! I wonder if M...

Re: NYT Glass Exhibit article
Don, your artwork left me almost speechless! I'm surprised that no one's mentioned yet that the sublime beauty of the spatial relationships makes resonant the inherent overspecificity. I'm further surprised that no one's mentioned that the subaqueous qualities of the negative space verges on codifyi...

Re: Advice on a generic recipe for mold mix, please
Thanks Peter. I don't want to fire clay in my glass kiln as I've heard mixed reviews on doing that. I believe a bisque firing has to go to 1730F. If and when I do get the pottery kiln that would definitely be an option or I might consider getting it fired elsewhere meanwhile. Jen

Re: Advice on a generic recipe for mold mix, please

Re: Advice on a generic recipe for mold mix, please
Cynthia and Bert, thank you so much for your prompt replies. Thanks Cynthia for the basic recipe and the advice. Is that pre-fired before using or just thoroughly dried then kiln washed? Bert, you've given me something to think about regarding refractory supplies. I'll see what I can find out locall...

Advice on a generic recipe for mold mix, please
After several days reading everything I can find on mixes for reusable slumping molds, not necessarily deep casting, I am thoroughly confused. I have narrowed the results down to the following excerpts. Please pardon the editing, but I excluded references to brand-name products as I'm looking for ge...
