Re: bubbles
I've had a lot of luck sprinkling a few grains of clear powder frit between the layers of glass, especially the corners. You get fewer bubbles. But only a tiny sprinkle of frit - less is more. Pete

etched/sand blasted float and tin side
Ive ordered a piece of 4mm "acid etched" glass from here: (bottom right)
http://gerrysglass.com.au/decoration-glass-2
Its finely etched or sandblasted on one side.
Do you think the etching/sand blasting has removed the tin layer?

Re: Affordable Kiln Shelves
You can also use a glazed ceramic tile with a piece of thin fibre paper over the glazing. They're very smooth, very flat and can take glass slumping/fusing temperatures easily. They're also very cheap. In Australia we have a hardware chain called Bunnings that sell large tiles for $2.30 each. I'm su...

sharpie oil based paint marker survives taurus ring saw
Hi all, I've made a discovery! The sharpie oil based paint marker stays put as you cut the glass using a Taurus ring saw. No more vanishing lines. All you need to do is wait 5 minutes for the marking to dry. Have a look at the attached phone. It even stays put after you've cut it! (remove with a har...

Hi Cynthia,
Yes, that it! Thank you so much.
Could you please estimate the percentage of kiln wash in the total mix?
Regards
Peter

Adding kilnwash to plaster/silica investment
Hello all,
I recall reading somewhere that adding a small amount of dry kiln wash to dry plaster/silica before mixing the lot with water result in a very clean cast.
However, I can't find the original post or article - I may have imagined reading it
Any insights?
Pete

Water drip system

I have been using a suspended bucket with a small hole in the bottom filled with water that slowly drip due to gravity. This works but i want to buy somethi...

Re: Mixing large amounts of dry plaster and silica
This is exactly what you need but where you will find one in Australia is another question. http://www.amazon.com/Scepter-04239-7-Gallon-Odjob-Mixer/dp/B000BPK766 I tried to order this from Amazon, but the total was too expensive as postage to Australia was almost the same price as the Odjob mixer!...

Re: Mixing large amounts of dry plaster and silica
why would you mix that dry? you will never get an even mix so your castings would be un predictable. you slake the proper proportions into water when making molds. the mix happens in the water. r. I thought that you mixed it dry, then added the mixed dry powder to water, then mixed it wet. That way...
