Hey all; Thanks for the link to the site for home built. I am also interested in building a lap wheel for our studio. What we did in school was use 80 grit to rough grind, then clean everything and use 120. After that we used a separate piece of float glass with each size of abrasive with a litlle d...

Photography is not an appropriate medium to convey Carol's work. In this case a thousand words would do a better job. "Seeing" the finished peices requires a moving eye.[/quote] Carol: I have to agree. I saw your piece in the studio artists show in the MFA in Boston several years ago now. ...

I am both a craftsperson (not a crafter pleeease) I make my living pursuing excellence in a line of control draped vases and candle holders. These pay for my mortgage and pay for my studio. ...

He started by making ducks usin river rocks as the body. after a couple of years three exhibitors at the shows we frequent were doing the same thing. his philosophy is to keep pushing himself. His work now is so much better, experssi...

Can someone please tell me how you capture someones previous message so you can reply to it ? I think it was Strega who was concerned about criticism. The trick is to enjoy waht you do, every one of us is embarrassed by our beginnings, and it is a small person who tears people apart. Critique, on th...

Okay, jumping in with both feet. I have been a kilnworker for 12 years now, doing the craft show circuit. I compete not against other kiln workers but against the blown glass artists and the price varience and percieved value between the two. Several years ago I attended the Pilchuck auction. I saw ...

Hi there; I'm new to the group, so I have no experience with the old board. I don't have lots of time to search and search, I have a studio to run, and right now, that is harder than ever with the economic climate. I am also not a computer techie. That said, I like this site. I can negotiate it easi...

Hi Marty; The board is a fibre material, not asbestos, and because I slump my work after my several fusings are completed, It doesn't matter to me if the board is perfectly flat. It ends up curved anyway, so if your piece ends up needing to be flat, it probably isn't a good idea to use it. I too hav...

Hey Marty; The frit leaves distortions, or bumps which can distract from you pattern. I have found that it was better to cut or belt my border to remove the "bumps". I always end up firing the pieces again for slimping, or after extensive sand blasting, so I get my firepolished edge. Anoth...

Hi there We regualrly fuse up to three layers of bullseye without bubbling. We always dam with fibre board, with clear glass we occaisionally use thin fire paper, although we are still on our stock of the old stuff which shrinks when fired and which corroded the finish of irids if fired face down We...
