Here is the image of the piece along with a scrap of the original. I am starting to wonder if it was a true white. I know that in Efferte some pieces are strikers. I can't find the ID number for this - I am sure that would help. Thanks for all your help [/url]www.glassaddict.com/color.change.htm[/ur...

Dan: It was Spectrum 96. I fired on the same shelf I have used forever, I did use thinfire - no colorants. Normal fuse routine... It doesn't look like it will be cool enough for me to take out of the kiln tonight - so I will post pic in the morning. Along with a piece of the white I cut from. Thanks...

Yes, it turned brown on all sides. It is an even change of color on top and bottom and sides. What I mean by that is - there is no variation of going from lighter to darker - it just all went to a brown. This is the first time that I've had glass change color on me..wierd.

Marty: I didn't use overglaze on this piece. Do you think that would have kept the white from turing brown? It is just really wierd how the color went from bright white to brown. It is in the kiln right now ramping down from a slump - will post a pic and maybe we can figure it out from there. Thanks...

Spectrum 96 White - discoloration?

Hello everyone! I used Spectrum 96 white yesterday for the first time - I normally use BE. Anyhow, I cut a 8" diameter out of the white and then used a few small Spectrum black squares and did a full fuse. The white turned brown. It came out great and I actually like it better than the white. W...

Barbara: Yes, unfortuantly I had to use "regular" Spectrum for this project. I did a full fuse first just to round off my edges nicely (which worked great) that is when I incurred the stretch marks and devit. Tomfoolery gave me some great information which was to bevel my edges and then sl...

Sheryl: Yes, that is it. I can't find the correct spelling either - I just remember someone calling it that. I used it for the first time a few weeks ago. It was wonderful - I was able to make my designs with the end of one of my glass rods (blunt end). Very easy to work with - and expensive. http:/...

I've never used the hardner when I've used fiberboard. I've started using a different type now called kyfler (excuse the spelling). It sands into shapes easier.

Forgot to sacrafice to the gods of Devit

Banging head on wall here - I've never had devit before until I started doing this last commission. I am pretty sure, after searching the archives and reading them until I am blurry eyed, that I know how to prevent it in the future when I use this different type of glass (spectrum for stained glass)...

Kim, try this link to the archives. If the link doesn't work, try searching "Cerium Oxide" in the archives. Good info was posted there a couple or so months ago. http://www.warmglass.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=1737&highlight= ...Kelly Kelly: Thank you- can't figure out how I missed tha...

Re: Polishing using Cerim Oxide

stretch marks happen during your slumping. if you are slumping at appropriate temperatures you should not get devitrification during the slump (though you may have gotten it earlier during a full fuse firing. But back to the stretch marks. They tend to be more likely to happen when you are slumping ...
