calcium silicate boards

Post by Ian »

Hi all
I can source calcium silicate boards here in South Africa.
I would like to know if this product would be suitable for cutting drop rings and making moulds. It has a rating of 1000C and comes in sheets of 1.2 metres x 50cm Would I have to use kiln wash with this type of board?
Thanks
Ian

Yes you can use it for drop rings and molds. You may want to add some rigidizer, (colloidal silca) to harden it further and also harden the surface. You should definitely use kiln wash if you rigidize it. It would be a good idea, though not absolutely necessary, to kiln wash it if you stay at low temperatures.
