Straight cuts, thick pieces

Post by Paul Tarlow »

I have a BE half-sheet sized piece of glass that I've fused design into and I now want to cut into 4 rectangles. It's about 6mm thick.

Anyone have any fool-proof techniques for for straight cuts on a sheet of glass? The sheet has a variety of colors -- which in my experience makes glass prone to breaking off the score.

Part of the challenge is that the amount of glass to each side of the score also varies (I'll need to trim the irregular edges) -- which also makes it prone to not breaking on the score.

I know we've covered breaking thick glass a bunch of times -- I'm hoping the simplified requirement of only needing straight cuts will yield some magic trick. I've invested a lot of glass and time in this sheet and now I'm afraid to cut it.

Thanks,
Paul
