Galvanised Steel
Is it safe to use a piece of Galvanised steel as a slumping mold in the kiln?
Re: Galvanised Steel
No. Search galvanized steel on the forum and you will get more than enough information on this topic.

Re: Galvanised Steel
Galvanized steel is coated with zinc, which will vaporize below 800°F (about 425°C). Zinc oxide fumes are dangerous. Google, "metal fume fever."

Re: Galvanised Steel
my question to that is, is it a one time thing though?
If I fire it once well ventilated are all the toxins released?

Re: Galvanised Steel
Construction fabric is galvanized, and usually, it all burns off in one firing. Then it can be encased in Bullseye Glass. I have switched to sandblasting the coating off, or soaking it in vinegar/alcohol solution. Less dangerous to ozone.
Love and luck make a wonderful lifestyle.
