MESH MELT

Dear everybody,
After I have been asking zillion questions, and nagging on how and why, here is my first melt - relatively OK [IMHO]
I would love to hear - read your comments.

As it is - I do not consider it as a 'piece', but as an option for a central image in a bigger piece. This is generally my idea, to 'implant' a very 'active' area in a more peacefull composition.

I purposely did not dam it - as I wanted it to spread, [and test 'the glass wants to be 6 m'm' ] Really I dammed it farther, to protect the shelf and the kiln, I had no idea how it became this shape, was very surprised, but I like it like this. [as a part of larger composition].

I am very eager to hear your comments. I am grateful for the advises you offered me on the techniques threads. Kind of shy to present this - for me it is the next stage of my learning process.

The size is about 10" BY 9" [approximately] 20 c'm by 20 c'm

I will not do anything to this piece.
I think that whatever I do here will only ruin the piece. We have a saying in Hebrew "He who adds - deletes" [something like 'more is less' ....... and this is my feeling with this particular piece.
I shall glue it to a thick [2"] transpatent Acrylic bloc and leave it as is. I think that any additional thing I do with it , will only ruin it.

However, I learnt my lesson from this - my head is exploding with ideas of how to work with melts, mesh melts and pot melt, including boiling the glass. I see many possiblities - all of them include using several methods of treatment, sometimes in several firings, some times in one firing. I really feel I should sit down and write for myself all the ideas, and start working on them one by one.
The final pieces might look in a way, like my prints, which I used to do years ago. I shall, however have the benefit of the qualities of glass - transparencies [glass changing its color being on top of another color], the fact that I can stand the piece [so that light can come thru it...] play with tranparents and opaques at the same piece and a lot more. I am sure more ideas will pop up once I work with these methods.

I am so happy working with colors!
Color is my middle name, I always said this.

Greetings Havi.
Lovely colours, and flow in your melt. It becomes really fun when the suprises in the kiln are Good Ones. and technique adjusts to make them even more so.

While you are inspired, DEFINATELY write and Sketch your ideas down so you can come back to do them justice later. Sometimes the kiln will not cycle fast enough to take advantage of all the inspirations at hand, so physical notes/drawings preserve inspiration that my become lost to other distractions.

How does the "back" of the piece look? If mine were too rough or stuck to the kiln wash, I found that "flat lapping" them (manually flat gringing the back with loose abrasive on top of a larger float glass slab) gave a very nice "ground glass finish" to the back. It made it "evenly opaque" which acted as a "projection screen" for the front face, when viewed from the back side. This makes the piece itself look Quite different when viewed from both sides. It might be worth trying if you get one that sticks really bad.

Yes, by now I have written down so many ideas concerning how I want to continue, and what I want to experiment with.
First and foremost is, to make a piece with a background.
The question is what background? again more than one option that I see.
Transparent, or colorful, if colorful - is is going to be colorful - as in colorful sheet, or am I going to 'dye' it?
Shall I make under transparent glass some powder to paint it? and on it the mesh melt?

And so on and so forth.
Basically my thinking is to put together several techniques to make the final piece, maybe in one firing, maybe in more than one firing.
Also, I am not agianst doing some mesh melt and then - some fusing, as a second step.
Oh well, better to DO SOMETHING than philosophise endlessly.

and yes, here is the other side, not yet treated but will be. I guess it is possible to grind it also with a diamond pad, or angle grinder?

That is Beautiful....I have been trying to find a stainless steel mesh but have not been able to. I see you are in Isreal and I am in US, hopefully someone can send me in the right direction. It would be most appreciated.
