Drawer/Cabinet Pull Molds

Post by barbieq »

I've been looking at Drawer and Cabinet Pull Molds. For what I've seen it is evident that the top of the glass will be the front of the pull because there is a small well in the bottom of the mold which (I guess) will be the attachment to the cabinet or drawer. Usually to mount a drawer/cabinet pull there's a screw that goes from the back of the drawer front/cabinet door thru the wood and into the pull attachment to secure the pull to the drawer/cabinet. I don't see any way for the screw to go into the pull. Anybody used these? Can you explain how these actually work? Thanks for the help.

Usually there's a flat/textured metal backing that you glue the glass onto, and then THAT is what is held by the screw from the other side.

You could probably cast a threaded hole into the pull, but it would be likely to chip out. I did one small project where I cast a doorknob with a long channel in back, then glued a threaded female cylinder thingee (there's a name for it, just can't think of it at the moment) into the channel. That way it was metal screwing into metal, not metal into glass.

It worked, but it was fiddly stuff that required a lot of adjustments; gluing the glass on a premade pull is much easier (and less expensive to produce). Some friends make exceptional drawer and cabinet pulls, and offer instruction/adhesive advice on their site. You might check it out:
