Mesh Melt
I am planning on doing a mesh melt and would like a little advice. I built a 15 in by 15 in by 4 1/2 box made of vermiculite and stainless steel screws. I have a stainless steel wire mesh for the top of the box. I also placed some screws on top of the box to hold the wire mesh in place. I prepped my kiln shelf with 5 layers of kiln wash. I plan on cutting 1/32 fiber blanket to line the box and come between the box and the glass. I have a couple questions 1) how much glass will I need to for the mesh melt (6mm thick) 2) I am looking for a suggested program (Jen-Ken AF3P 24E/15) Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

On fusedglass.org, there's a pot-drop volume calculator and schedule:

And Steve Immerman's pot drop tutorial has a recommended schedule:

Re: Mesh Melt
If you put the screws into the top edge of the vermiculite and don't bend the SS mesh over then I would expect the weight under heat to pull/rip the screws out of the vermiculite. It may all fall into the middle.

ps. Here's how I set it up:

Thank you for your advice. I appreciate the help! I have been putting off the project because I have been a little nervous about it. My project is a square piece so I will add a little more glass. I did use the pot melt calculator. Thanks, Blair
