edge to edge fusing

Just wondering when you do edge to edge fusing if you need a solid bottom piece or can you have 2 layers of the same size pieces on top of each other. If you can what can you do so they do not pull apart? Any help would be appreciated. Jabeb[/b]

I find that it helps to have maybe some frit at the seam if they are not perfect and then a solid piece above or below the 2 edges. If they are perfect cuts then clear over them works nicely.

so are you telling me you cannot but up two layers of cut glass and have them turn out?

Glass wants to be 1/4" thick. If you butt 2 pieces of glass that are thinner than 1/4" they will tend to shrink when heated so that the edges get thicker. This will tend to unbutt the 2 pieces of glass resulting in a hole or 2.
I have been advised to grind the butt edges to a 45º bevel. This makes one piece overgang the other, giving you a better shot at them not separating.
Read up on the basic behaviour of glass when heated. Very little can be taken for granted. Tricky stuff glass.
