I recently acquired a used model 760 Covington wet belt sander in excellent condition. The previous owner did not have the 13" backplate, so I bought one and it arrived today. I'm questioning the method for anchoring the top of the back plate to the tool housing. Am I correct in assuming that the "L" bracket that fits over the upper bolt on the back plate is a spacer that gets pinched between the back plate and the outer (left) face of the tool housing? It certainly isn't squared up with those two surfaces when the finger nut is tightened to hold the assembly in place, but I don't see any other configuration that will keep the upper portion of the back plate from moving.

Any comments from Covington owners appreciated.
