Deep Slumping Mold

Hi All,

I am using a new slumping mold - a bowl with ruffled edges, but is deeper than the molds I usually use. The diameter of this slumping mold is 11 1/2" when using a ruler across the top. The diameter using a soft measuring tape across the diameter and down into the bowl is 13".

I want as big a bowl as possible, but I'm worried about using a 13" fused disc for this mold, since the overhang would be over an inch. Has anyone figured this one out already? How big a fused disc can I use?

Thanks in advance,
Pat Loboda

You have to be very careful with cantilevered edges. I would suggest no more than a 3/16" overhang. Brock

Could you, perhaps, slump it slightly in something larger and more shallow and THEN put it in your new mold for a second slump? It seems that if you get it to drop in the middle a little, the sides would pull in and not over hang your new mold so much.
Just a thought.

I build furniture-&-fiber scaffolds for the extra hangover.
