dyed float

I was visiting a site and saw a piece of stacked float shaped into a vase. I have seen these vessels before and always wondered how they got the color. Was it very pale colored float or what? anyway, I read the description and I stated that the mediun was float, adhesive and dye. Does anyone know about this process? It is so crystal in color. I would surmise they use something like hxtal adhesive, but how do yu dye float? Or wuld yu think they dye the adhesive? Inquiring minds want to know. By the way the site is artresources.com. Ann

I went to the Art Resources site and it is an ineresting site, but I could not locate any glass vases.
Either the glue is dyed, or they used a coating. Coatings could be epoxy or UV epoxy, for unfired alternatives. Organic bottle coatings are fired to 400ºF. It could be a lustre or transparent enamel. Glass lustres and enamels are fired to 1050ºF. Without seeing at least a picture it is hard to tell. Even a picture might be not good enough info to tell. There are many ways to get the look you describe.

It says on the site that it is dyed glue. That work would give me nightmares. Coldworking is my least favorite aspect of glass work. The forms he uses are hardly worth the effort in my book.

I would suspect Orasol dye mixed with the Hxtal.

Thanks for the responses. Cold working to that degree would be trying that's for sure, but someday I would like to try on a tweeney weeney piece just for fun (?). Ann

I'm fairly certain that Sid uses a dyed UV adhesive.
