KILN WASH Q

Post by rodney »

im wondering about this,,,,,i usually put kiln wash on my fiber board shelves, and put them on top of the kiln to dry it out, when firing,,,but recently i took some time off, so the shelves had days to dry out,,,,and once i fired my first batch, and instead of taking them out when they were hot, which is my custom, i left them in until the were cold,,,when i took them out, the backs were perfectly smooth, with no write caked on primer ( i us BE primer ),,,was this because i was using shelves that were not yet dry, or because i waited till they cooled off,,
thanks,,

It's an interesting observation Rodney. I rarely have a kilnwash sticking problem and I always wait until the glass is cool before removing it from the shelf. I also prefire my shelves to 1000° after kilnwashing.
