For Bert, relating to 8mm thermocouple.

Thanks for previous reply Bert. Reassuring me that a calibration in the middle range was wisest way to go. Now for my second question in response to your reply which is now lost to cyber space. Is it normal for a wide ranging temperature measuring device as bulky as my recommended thermocouple be out between 20 to 25 degC at atmospheric temps upon cooling? It baffles me that a calibration is made with another finer measuring device to be within an erotic close dance and then repeat performance again in a trial ramp,soak,ramp,soak. peace, haydo

I'm not sure I understand your question. One reason I prefer the 3mm thermocouple sheathed in inconel steel is that it has a relatively quick response time. Potters often use one in a ceramic casing. These will have a much slower temp change due to the ceramic sucking up heat on the upswing and holding on to heat in the downswing.

I've actually never calibrated a thermocouple. I only calibrate settings on my controllers that change the setpoint signal from the master controller.

Yes, I find things I say often get lost in the wording. I sent a text to son asking where the hammer was so I could adjust the Fuji temperature controller he installed, this would have just calibrated me back to sitting on my haunchs waiting to tweak knobs. But am happy to say that I'm now into my first productive controlled firing and am becoming familar with how to access and adjust info on it. Yoo Hoo! I'm just going to trust that the thermocouple is spot on at working temps and slacks off at atmospheric. This firing will give me opportunity to assess the readings from the mutimeter thermocouple and the 8mm one shoved into the kiln. peace, haydo
