I'm firing Spectrum 96 (clear base with multi pieced top layer. The mold has an interior 1/2" rim that I want to line with diachroic chips. I'm thinking if I fire the chips in the first full fuse firing, I could mis-align (since the late has a shallow dip to it). If the chips are small enough would it be better to fire this detail when I slump the piece? Or would they not round at the slump temp?

I just realized that I'll still have the same problem of lining up the detail even if I add it when I Slump fire. I guess the question then is could I add it AFTER THE SLUMP firing to the actual raised rim and do a 3rd firing, again to slump temp?

Well...if the bowl is soft enough to fully fuse to the dichroic chips, it's also soft enough to overslump and slide down into the mold, ruining your piece. You might get away with a "tack-fuse," i.e., where the dichroic is only partially softened into the surface (i.e., not very rounded), but even then you'll risk overslumping. A third firing, with the bowl already in its slumped shape, would probably make things worse.

The best thing to do is clearly mark the boundaries of the place and make sure you're well within those boundaries with your placement. I do this by marking up a piece of glass with the full outline of the mold, and then using it to place components. I have a tip on my blog about it:
