Posted a few pictures, including some truly fabulous work I happened upon by fellow Warm Glassist Doug Randall, on my blog of SOFA Chicago for anyone interested...Photos were taken with my iphone, so the quality was pretty good on some, and not so great on others. I wandered past Doug's work hoping to get a chance to say hey, but I must have just missed him...Well done! The booth looked great. I hope you had a successful show!

Thanks! I saw Lyons' big purple sitting woman just coming out of the mold in Hugh's foundry--how neat to see the finished piece!

Oh what a surprise and joy to see this posting. My dream has ALWAYS been to be wondering around SOFA completely awake and jazzed and fully aware of how lucky we are to enjoy the visual stimulation that surrounds you. The senses are firing on FULL throttle , and you must take time to see the whole show and enjoy every single art piece. AND of course a few wine with friends thrown in.

P.S. Cynthia, was that at Hugh Mckay's . He is amazing. His technical skills are far beyond incredible.

Re: SOFA Chicago 2012
I definitely felt borderline ADD as I bounced from one booth to the next. Unbelievably stimulating! This was my first time there and I definitely see the need to plan for more than one day the next time around. There is just SO much to observe. I loved having a opportunity to interact with the artists. So cool! At one point I couldn't restrain myself and I reached out and touched a sculpture. My friend gasped, and we had a good laugh...The day ended with Sushi...Another first. Dear Lord, I have really been missing out!
It's not lost on me how lucky it is to live an hour and a half out of Chicago. (Don't shoot me...lol) If you ever DO make it here, let me know and I'll be right there with you and your wine Leslie! lol
Believe it or not, Lyons' work really did remind me of you Cynthia, with your passion and gift for casting...How extremly cool to have the chance to see it coming out of the mold!

Wow--I'm flattered--I like her work. And yes, Les, it was Hugh McKay doing the casting. He'd just popped the purple lady out of the mold and stuck her on a box while he checked for flaws. (There weren't any)
I've got a couple of pics of it in the workshop, so you can see the scale and transparency. This is a single-piece, single-fire casting, difficult to do in that size without stressing out the extended hand.

OHHHHH how SPECIAL. I miss Hugh here and well, here he is. The sculpture is totally amazing. The Scale is impressive . The workmanship is impressive. No breaking of the mold and hardly ANY clean up. Oh how I wish I lived in Portland area. I would be a helper for Hugh anytime.

(and yes, the work reminds of your wonderful work tooo Cynthia.)
P.S. super fast question, is this cast from the head. How big is the kiln . Wow! No bubbles and that is Hugh's signiture . NO bubbles
