				Tile saw dilemma

Hi, everyone. I recently decided to try my hand at casting vessels. After removing the investment, I took the piece to my tile saw to cut off the reservoir glass and - rats! - I realized my saw does not have an adjustable head and I couldn't fit the piece against the blade to cut it due to lack of clearance. (In my defense, I haven't used the saw in a long time and I forgot its features, or lack thereof.) Anyway, what advice would any of you give for someone who is looking for a saw that would have 5 - 6 inches clearance. MK (the manuf. of my current saw) makes several with a tilting head that can be used for "plunge cuts." Would that work with glass?
Any advice appreciated. Here's a picture of my situation.
(P.S. I ended up grinding it off with my lap grinder, so life did go on - just a little slower!)

You could also buy a Foredom or similar tool, and get a cutoff wheel. Probably cost less than a big-throated saw. I do that with my castings wherever the saw won't reach, then just lap down the rest.

Now that you remind me, I do have one of those. I tried it once and had trouble controlling it. Maybe it's worth re - visiting it, though. Thanks for the suggestion!

I often just hold the piece and bring it to the saw blade on my saw if it's to big. Pull or push the table out of the way and bring the glass to the blade.

I tried that, Rick, but there was barely enough room to wedge the piece in that space because the table doesn't go back very far. It just didn't feel safe that way.

This is what I use. Takes a bit of practice to get an even cut all the way around the object, but that's what grinders are for!
