Gas shock lifters on Clamshell's lid

How well has the gas shock lifters on clamshell held up? Has anyone had problems with them? Curious.... admirer of the clamshell design.
Also, very tired of heavy lids that have

cranky hinges.
My next kiln will have a user friendly system for sure.

You can always set up a counter weight with pulleys. Just make sure that it still weighs less than the lid so the lid stays down when you want it to.
