I recently seen graphite molds with vacuum bases. I'd like to know if anybody is familiar with this technique. It appeared to me that the glass would be heated from above with a torch as the vacuum pulled the hot glass down into the graphite mold. When I inquired I was told that they were heated in a kiln???

You are right vacuum casting of objects is done in a kiln, but its not really a warm glass technique. There are a couple hot glass boards you might check out. Basically you do it in a kiln to raise the temperature of the object to be encased. Paul Stankard is probably the most notable artist doing this.

Thanks David. Can you tell me where Paul Stankard is located and the links to the hot glass boards?
