Surface Techniques in Fused Glass

Check out this workshop, which covers not one, not two, but three different fused glass techniques. We’ll start with the crackle technique, then continue with techniques that involve iridized glasses, and finally we’ll explore several ways to use mica in fused glass.
The crackle process begins by manipulating glass powder, then firing to achieve a crackled appearance in the final piece. We’ll cover both the basic crackle effect and several more advanced refinements of the process that combine crackle with reactions and fused metals.
Our second area of concentration will be iridized glasses, where the manufacturer has coated the glass with a metallic layer that shimmers when hit by light. We’ll examine a range of different effects that can be achieved with iridized glass and learn how to use glass powder, resist paper, and other tools to make the most of the iridizing effect.
And finally, we’ll work with mica, a naturally occurring material that comes in wide variety of brilliant silvers, golds, and bronzes. Mica can be painted, sifted, or airbrushed — we’ll explore all three ways of using it in fused glass.

Registration must be made prior to the start of all courses. A deposit of one half the course tuition must be paid at the time of registration, with the balance due thirty days prior to the beginning of the course. No space can be held without payment, and spaces will be held on a first-come, first-saved basis.

Cancellation policy: A full refund, less a $25 processing fee, will be made if you cancel more than 30 days prior to the course. If you cancel less than 30 days prior to the course, a refund (less processing fee) will be made ONLY if we are able to fill your space. On the rare occasion that we need to cancel a course, we will refund all fees paid. We will make every attempt to notify you of cancellation more than one week prior to the course.
